Three out of four games washed out this week. The 2nds did play and the 1sts started briefly...details below.
Stony Stratford 1st XI's game at Brixworth was one of many decimated by the rain across the area on Saturday. They did manage to get ten overs in, and having won the toss and elected to bowl they had reduced Brixworth to 26 for 4 on a wicket which was ideal for Stony's seamers. Skipper Steve Bellew (4 for 11) had taken full advantage of the conditions but after several heavy downpours, both teams and the umpires decided enough was enough and the game was abandoned.
Stony's 2nd XI were one of the few teams in the league to actually get a full game in, winning by two wickets in a low scoring game at home to Wollaston II. With fellow promotion chasers Towcestrians also winning, it was just as well Stony did defy the weather to get the game in and they remain in touch in third spot. Stand in skipper Mike Avery won the toss and one a green wicket had little hesitation in asking the visitors to bat. And his bowlers wasted little time in taking full advantage by rushing Wollaston out for just 79. Dave Avery (3 for 38) and Richard Lines (4 for 15) did the damage for Stony with Michael Brown also picking up two wickets.
Wollaston put up a huge fight when it was their turn with the ball and in the end Stony only chased down the tiny total with two wickets to spare. Steve Wharton got the innings off to a solid start for Stony with 22 before he became the first of four victims for Andy Luck (4 for 19). With John Pike (4 for 35) making life tough at the other end there were plenty of nerves still jangling as James Partridge (7*) and Lines (3*) got Stony over the line.
With Great Oakley and Horton House's matches rained off, Stony moved back up to third in the table, 26 points behind Towcestrians with five matches to play.
