Stony Stratford take their place in their first Hevey Building Supplies NCL Twenty20 cup finals this Sunday at the County Ground, Northampton. They join fellow Premier Division sides Northampton Saints and Burton Latimer, as well as Division Two leaders Oundle in the finals which last year were watched by over 1,000 spectators.
The first match begins at 10.15, with the semi final draw taking place at 9.30. Admission is free to all supporters. All the teams will be in coloured kits with commentary and music throughout the day. Stony have reached this stage thanks to victories over Old Northamptonians, Old and Loddington in previous rounds and skipper Steve Bellew believes his side have what it takes to go on and win the competition.
‘The Twenty20 format really suits our game. Our batters like to give it a whack from the start and have been very confident in this format thus far. We have a young side who are generally decent in the field and we have bowled well when we’ve had to. We’re delighted to get there and we’re going to enjoy every minute, but we’re definitely not going for a day out. We should have beaten Saints last week and we have nothing to fear from them. Oundle might be in Division Two but everyone knows they are a Premier Division side in reality and Burton knocked Finedon out in the quarters. So regardless of who we play, it will be tough but we will be more than a match for any of them if it’s our day’.
